Institutions of Higher Education are more age-diverse than ever with students returning to complete degrees after child-rearing, caregiving, unemployment or other reasons; retooling their knowledge and skills to advance in their careers; exploring second and third career options; or for pursuing personal development and joy of learning. In addition, the faculty and staff members who support student learning are “aging-in-place” in the workplace. Yet, how are higher education environments developing supportive and welcoming practices for their age-diverse communities?
The Age Inclusivity Domains of Higher Education (AIDHE) model offers an evidence-based foundation to transform campuses into age-inclusive institutions. Joins for this important conversation and learn about the model that Dr. Silverstein and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Boston have developed and describe the seven domains of age-inclusive practices and the evidence-based strategies that emerged from their research.

About our Speaker
Nina M. Silverstein, PhD
Nina M. Silverstein, PhD, is Professor Emeritus, Gerontology Department, University of Massachusetts Boston. She earned her PhD at the Heller School, Brandeis University. She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and has held leadership roles in that organization (Chair, SRPP); the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (President); and the Alzheimer’s Association (MA/NH Board Chair). She has published on the impact of dementia on home, community, institutional and acute care; community mobility; and on a broad range of issues in gerontology. She is currently Co-Investigator on healthy aging data reports funded through the Point 32 Foundation. In addition, she is Co-Investigator on research on age-inclusivity in higher education that was supported by the RRF Foundation on Aging. She serves on the GSA-AGHE Workgroup tasked to provide resources toward reaching that goal.
